A message from the VNCA President

I love being a vet nurse because ...

I wish you all a very happy Vet Nurse Day! We are so proud to be aligning ourselves with the international community again this year and support International Vet Nurse Day along with our sister associations across the world. Veterinary nurses and technicians play such an integral role in the veterinary practice and through Vet Nurse Day the VNCA aims to share that message with the industry and wider community.

I am so very proud to announce the 2020 Vet Nurse of the Year has been awarded to Gary Fitzgerald of QLD and the 2020 Student Vet Nurse of the Year has been awarded to Tess Richardson of SA. Both winners had outstanding applications in a tough field of high calibre nominees and their awards are very well deserved.

This year's theme, 'I love being a vet nurse because ...' aims to highlight all the good stuff about why we do what we do. I honestly can't imagine doing anything else, even though it's been over 25 years since I walked into my local vet clinic and asked if I could help out after school as a kid. I love our patients and clients for both the joy and challenges they bring. I love that we get to work in an ever changing environment that has kept me interested all these years. I love the busy days that are exhausting but make you feel like you have achieved something amazing at the end of it. I very much love the people I have worked with in this amazing industry - the people who have taught me, made me laugh and supported me on the tough days. There really are too many things I love about being a vet nurse, I could be writing all day! I really look forward to reading your stories and reasons why you love being a vet nurse, there is so much good stuff to celebrate today and it is especially important that we do this in 2020.
