The VNCA recognises the leadership and contribution that Helen Power has made to the veterinary nursing profession by establishing this scholarship in her name. Helen has volunteered on all levels of VNCA committees since 1996 and held a position on the VNCA Board continuously from 1998 until 2020. Helen is the VNCA’s longest serving volunteer. She has lobbied to government for legislation change and been instrumental in leading the education standards nationally for veterinary nurses in Australia for over 20 years, and continues to serve and support the VNCA on the National Industry Advisory Group for Veterinary Nurses and International Veterinary Nurse and Technician Association. Helen has the ability to see potential in people and guide them to achieve in their careers, and her dedication and belief in this profession is inspiring.
In order to assist nurses to achieve their career goals and support those that will be the future leaders of our profession, the VNCA has established a scholarship fund in Helen’s name as a celebration of the work she has undertaken on behalf of veterinary nurses in Australia and the leadership she has shown for more than two decades. Helen is a true leader and her advocacy on our behalf deserves to be recognised.
Veterinary nurses who hold Full or Associate Membership of the VNCA for a period not less than two years at 29 January 2021 and are registered with the AVNAT Registration Scheme and/or WA VSB
Student veterinary nurses who hold Student Membership of the VNCA for a period not less than 12 months at 29 January2021 and are registered with the AVNAT Registration Scheme and/or WA VSB
Currently employed by the veterinary industry and an Australian resident.
The scholarship is offered to enable veterinary nurses/veterinary technicians to attend the 27th VNCA Conference in June 2021, including travel and accommodation, as well as $500 towards the advancement of their career and leadership goals.
All applicants will be advised of the outcome in writing in the first week of March 2021 so that arrangements for attendance at the 27th VNCA Conference in Perth from 9-11 June 2021 can be arranged.
