- For VNs and VTs registered under the AVNAT Registration Scheme
- For providers of VN and VT education opportunities
For VNs and VTs registered under the AVNAT Registration Scheme
Each annual cycle, all veterinary nurses and veterinary technicians registered under the AVNAT Registration Scheme are required to accrue 20 points of eligible Continuing Professional Development (CPD). If you register during the year, the number of points you are required to accrue is adjusted to take this into account - see Table 1 in the CPD Policy.
COVID-19 update: AVNAT notification regarding CPD points for 2019/2020 cycle - 8 April 2020
What activities are eligible?
The CPD Policy outlines a broad range of activities that you can complete which accrue eligible points. see Table 2 in the CPD Policy Accruing points under 'Section 2 - Informal learning' is the most common approach to fulfilling this requirement. When considering attendance at a conference or continuing education seminar be sure to check whether it attracts AVNAT eligible CPD points - it must be approved by AVNAT, NZVNA or RACE.
AVNAT approved courses are:

For providers of VN and VT education opportunities
Add value and guarantee participation in your education activities – ensure they are recognised by the AVNAT Registration Scheme and attract AVNAT CPD points.
In response to strong support from across the veterinary industry, the AVNAT Registration Scheme is our first step towards striving for mandatory registration for all veterinary nurses and veterinary technicians working in clinical, management or academic areas across the industry. We are anticipating around 500 professionals will register with the Scheme in the first few months. Therefore, from 1 April 2019, CPD points approved by the AVNAT Registration Scheme will be in demand as each of those professionals will need to complete 20 CPD points annually to retain their registration.
Your organisation can participate as a provider of AVNAT CPD points by either:
- Becoming an AVNAT Education Partner; OR
- Applying for AVNAT CPD Points on an as needed basis.
